Re: Android Development Underway

Just ordered and received Lenovo A1 7" Tablet. Cannot get app to install. The Market says that your device is not compatible with this item. It's running Android 2.3.4. Tried rooting the tablet. Tried multiple changes to the build.prop file with no luck. Is there any way to make the app compatible with the device?

MX Mariner 1.1.17 released today with the following changes:

- Track log is now available
- Mark Manager tool is also available to manage tracks and waypoints
- NGA chart downloads removed due to copyright restrictions
- Expanded compatibility among different devices

Sweet. It now installs without any issues on my Lenovo A1. Great app. Just need the boat in the water now. Keep up the good work.

Is there any chance of a primer on how to create charts for use with MX Mariner?

Re: Android Development Underway

Feature request: cached google earth tiles.

What is interesting is that google maps on android now offers this already, perhaps a link to that cache would make life really simple.

What is more interesting is that when I turned MX off I was using the satellite view. When I turned it on again, no wifi, most of the tiles were preserved in cache already but not always rendered properly. So some form of caching is present for these tiles.

So I guess this feature exists is part. Would be wonderful is to look at a port and flip between a chart view and google sat view with that appropriate button on the screen menu ie: layers or a simple switch mechansim which exists already just not the simplest to access.

Many thanks, getting better all the time.

Surveyor,

I wish it was easy to make this easy. We will eventually get there as I still plan on making a simple tool to convert charts into the gemf format that MX Mariner uses. However, for now if you want to create your own chart files, these are the tools I'm using:
https://github.com/manimaul/MTCW

I did clean this up quite a bit from a while ago. You can take a look at the README and the INSTRUCTIONS files.

You are correct, previously viewed online map mode tiles are indeed cached and can be used offline. Agreed, it would be nice to switch map modes quickly. Perhaps when we are outfitted with a BCI, all of our user interfaces will be much simpler.

The plan is to finish v1.3 with full waypoints, tracks, routes support then on to Active Captain. I do have all the paperwork from Jeff.

Re: Android Development Underway

If Mx Mariner or other Android based nav progs can read a normal .kap file, why not use Paul's GE2KAP prog. and GE to construct tiled maps of the areas interested,PRIOR to your cruise and use it as a normal chart? If Mx Mariner does not have the capability to assemble the tiles,it should not be difficult to create such a routine, similar to that of OCPN. I have recently done the entire Mississippi all the way up and well past New Orleans in this way.

I WANT THIS NOW! Connect to the tiller pilot via bluetooth, climb the mast and navigate around bommies and rocks! Connect to the wife and see what she is really thinking...scary 8P

Surveyor,

Thank you, it is much clearer now that you have done some spring cleaning. I have done some research online and have found some other utilities that generate gemf but I will have to do some experimentation with them and your system. Thanks again
