Anchor watch Bug

Hi,

I think I found a bug that breaks openCPN 5.2 application even in "safe mode".

The scenario (running in RPI):
1- I set the anchor at my mooring just to test this feature. Everything was working well.
2- I stoped openCPN. I went sailing and I cannot open openCPN (it opens and breaks after 5 seg). This behaveour happends several times, even without plugins "safe mode".

3- Once in the mooring (inside the anchor perimeter) I can open it, deactivate the anchor watch and restart it with plugins (everything is working fine again).

NOTE: the error in console said something about sizes (I did a picture but the quality is not good enough .

This error shall be solved, cause even in "safe mode" it is impossible to solve it. The only option is to go to the anchor location.... Maybe setting the configuration file the anchor radious big enough so the vessel is inside it is enough... but not quite user friendly.

Its not Watchdog is the default openCPN anchor Watch feature. This is why "safe mode" didn't work, it is not a plugin matter.

OS is openplotter 1.x (do not know exacly the version).

Opencpn 5.2.

Ini/log file is at the boat, actually I live far away. When I go I get it.

To try to reproduce the bug, the best is to set an anchor and then emulate the ship far away and reestart opencpn.

No is the default openCPN anchor watch

What OS?
openplotter 1.x (latest sub-version of version 1).

What version of Opencpn?

5.2

What version of Watchdog?
I have it installed but the anchor watch is the openCPN native. This is cause "safe mode" also crash, it is not a plugin matter.

Here is the image of the error.

Re: Anchor watch Bug

It looks to me like you have a mismatch with the main program, use of wxWidgets 2.8 and wxWidgets 3.0.
This is likely the problem, but I don't use RPI. Try to resolve that error and it should work.
Do you have opencpn.ini or opencpn.config and opencpn.log files available to upload here?
For how to do this see this FAQ

Fuentes008...
The problem is likely in the rPI sound system, known to be somewhat flakey. OCPN seems to be trying to play the "two bells" alert sound.

Please try to start OCPN without any GPS input. This should bypass the anchor alarm warning it is trying to produce. Then, test the alarm sound producing method.

Thanks for the report.

It may be the problem. Anyway this problem shall be handled by openCPN in some way but not crashing.

If this possibility exist, "safe mode" should cancel all elements that may produce an alarm.

Re: Anchor watch Bug

I do not find OpenCPN "Anchor Watch" in the windows version.
See Advanced Features Anchor Watch

How would I enable this feature in Windows OpenCPN? Or is it just linux?

Re: Anchor watch Bug

Rick, you're right. The feature seems to have disappeared from W10 OCPN. I remember using the anchor alarm a few years ago on a dodgy anchorage with earlier versions of Windows, XP sp3 I think, and of course OCPN.

Re: Anchor watch Bug

I just tested and can't find any problem with the built in Anchor Watch on W10.
No activation needed.

Re: Anchor watch Bug

Thomas would you care to explain where we find this feature?

  • Drop a mark <1nm from your "ownship"
  • Right click, "set anchor watch"
  • Name of mark changes to 50m = radius of anchor watch circle. By changing the name you can change the radius.

Re: Anchor watch Bug

Just read the section of the manual you referred to. It still works like that.
Describe exactly what you do when it does not work for you!
