AIS350

Hallo

I just bought an AIS350 for my boat, and plan to use it on my MAC computer, on OPENCPN navigation software. I couldn't find the driver to use it so I am running Windows on parallels, because I found the driver for it.

Question 1:

I connected only the VHF antenna to the AIS350 and then using the USB Port to the computer. The AIS shows a green light and both OpenCPN and PROAIS2 (WINDOWS) recognize the device but show NO data. Do I need to connect to any other device? I don't have any raymarine plotter (only a Garmin plotter and a Raymarine Computer for an autopilot). If i understood it right only with the VHF antenna and the USB to the computer it should work.

Question 2:

Is there a driver for MAC, to use it in OPENCPN? I could install the PROAIS2 and the driver is good but not for OpenCPN in MAC.

Thanks!!!

The R350 is probably an OEM version of the Em-trak R100.
They provide a driver for OS-X:
https://em-trak.com/support/can-down...-drivers-r100/

No reception:
Can you communicate with the unit from ProAIS, changing parameters and receiving information about the system?

Remember that you have to disconnect from ProAIS and better close it before connecting from OCPN. Depending on the firmware of the receiver and the driver sometimes it will even require to power cycle the AIS to free the port.
That the port does show up in the drop down list of available COMs is no guarantee that you can connect to it.
Anyhow: Get the latest version of the firmware at Raymarine.

Then check for traffic in the debug window of ProAIS.
If there is none you have an antenna(cable/connector) problem or a faulty unit

Re: AIS350

The most likely reason is that there are no AIS transmissions to receive. Are you sure that there is something in the ether to receive. If yes then double check the antenna and cable (connectors)
If your device is recognized by the computer pls check the baudrate used by the computer. This should be 38400.

Re: AIS350

Use the NMEA debug window in OpenCPN to determine if data are being received.

Re: AIS350

Thanks for your answers.

using PROAIS2 and Opencpn (Running parallels and windows, still can't find driver for mac for AIS350) Seems that I receive data on the NMEA debug windows. Still i don't see any data of any other ship. Maybe i need to be sure that there is data to be received, but as i am in Aruba in a place full of cruisers and ships there should be. Im gonna keep on trying.

However on the PROAIS2 I cannot change any data from my own boat and don't have any information except that data is being received. Im still not surf if it working fine. Maybe is the cable antenna.

From the em-trak site regarding the drivers:

Drivers are also available in the download file for Linux and Mac.

Re: AIS350

Thanks all of you for your help. But I still cannot make it work.

I tried it with two different antennas (one which has been rewired recently, but its at deck) and I installed the driver correctly on my computer. The software PROAIS2 works and recognize the COM port, but then there is no information received. When ever I disconnect the antenna the program continue running the same, so I guess the antenna should be the problem. But my VHF works fine with both antennas.

The power cable from the AIS350 has lots of cables and I only connected the ones to power it. Is that ok or should I connect them (in that case, to what? I only have a garmin plotter with NMEA cable).

BTW im next to a very big port so I should have AIS information. The NMEA Debug window in open CPM shows some activity but I don't think it is receiving information.

I attach pictures to see if you can help me see whats wrong.

Thanks for your help!!
