Re: AIS not showing vessel names.

often I see targets without the vessel name, only mmsi and position.

The position course and speed is more important than the vessel name.

Eventually I will get the name, but maybe it's not sent as often?

Sean,

Yes, vessel details are not sent as often as course and position updates. The so-called "Static and Voyage Relate Data" can require 2 complete message transactions so is not sent as often as position report. For class B recreational AIS the vessel details (Static Data Report) are sent even less often than for class A.

And you will find the update rates for AIS even in the manual:

Ok. I may have expressed it wrong. My English is not at all native.
The AIS unit may have the call sign in the system but the message type ID 19 doesn't contain information about the call sign so it doesn't matter if the AIS unit is aware of it. The call sign can't be transmitted with message 19. For that the message ID 24 has to be used.
Never mind. Message 19 is now in OCPN code as said. If you're on Windows and want to test please tell and I can serve you a link to temporarily installation file.
Edit: Dave has already load that beta. Try this: http://opencpn.navnux.org/beta/openc....204_setup.exe

Re: AIS not showing vessel names.

Yes thanks I am on windows.
I understood what you meant by message 19 not transmitting Callsign just very strange there are 2 vessels with the same Ais units in the harbour the one I can see the name on the other one not. I would like to know why the one use message ID19 and the other one not strange

Re: AIS not showing vessel names.

Ivan,

4.5.204 --> 4th Feb.
The patch Hakan announced is in the next one. And those who compile the most recent version have seen already your targets.
One more night for the next beta?

Re: AIS not showing vessel names.

Ivanm..
OK - strange but there have been many code changes now and I'm not sure when Dave did the official beta setup file. Would you mind to make another test with my own from latest Github code. (You will get a radar plugin as well but it can be deleted afterwards)

Thanks, I didn't read carefully. Try to make two things at the same time is nothing for us, is it. It's for the opposite sex I suppose?
