AIS & OpenCPN

Hi

I am not sure if this is a bug or not. I have a class B AIS and when I right-click and select AIS Target List, it shows my boat in the list. As a comparison, on my conventional chart plotter, it does not show my boat. Surely, I should be able to exclude my boat and hence the CPA alarm that it sets off?

Re: AIS & OpenCPN

It happens on 2.5 and 3.0. and I am running XP

My logic says that OpenCPN has no way of knowning my MMSI number and therefore reports it.

Stingo....

And what brand/model of transponder?
Do you have a separate GPS receiver also connected?
Please tell us more about your configuration.

We handle AIVDO messages (from ownship) separately from AIVDM (target) messages. There should be no CPA alerts with yourself.

Re: AIS & OpenCPN

Hi Dave
GPS data comes in on com1 from a puck-GPS, Garmin GPS18x USB
AIS data comes in from a Raymarine AIS 500 on com6 via an NMEA block at 3800 baud.

I un-installed OpenCPN 3.0 and reinstalled 2.5 to check if my boat was showing in the AIS Target List. As I mentioned earlier, it does. I have reinstalled OpenCPN 3.0 and my boat still shows in the AIS Target List, but the AIS icon no longer flashes a warning.

When I turn the AIS on, about a minute later, a green dot appears in the bottom right of the AIS button. The triangular boats were turning red yesterday.

I am fortunate enough to be in a nice quiet anchorage so the only AIS clutter is myself and one other boat, which is outside my 2NM CPA alarm limit.

Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.
Cheers
John

Re: AIS & OpenCPN

I connect to a JRC Class A AIS on Com1. Running OpenCPN 3.0.1. My GPS data is fed through the AIS. I don't have any incorrect CPA alarms, but my vessel is also on the AIS targets list. This doesn't bother me - just passing on the information.

The heading of the ownship icon was fixed in this beta release, however on the Dashboard the HDG box still shows "---"

Agreed. But still think that it shouldn't show.

And since posting, I have not been able to replicate the alarm going off for my own boat.
