5.2.4 Won't Open on MacOS

Hi everyone! I've had ocpn 4.8.x installed and running on my iMac at home. It was running well, but I recently realized how outdated the version was. I installed version 5.2.4 via the .pkg file, but it fails to open. In trying to get things going, I used CleanMyMacX to remove the app entirely and re-installed, but the trouble remains. MacOS is an older: 10.11.6.

When I attempt to open the program I get the following error: Deleted stale lock file '/Users/owen/Library/Preferences/opencpn/_OpenCPN_SILock'. I click OK to this message and the next message is: "The last opencpn run seems to have failed." Selecting on that message to open with or without plugins doesn't change the outcome: the app doesn't open.

Attached are the log and screen captures. The opencpn.log (renamed opencpn.doc) is empty, but it's all I could find. I also included a pic of the ..\Preferences\opencpn directory.

Any thoughts? Any more details I can provide? Thanks in advance for your input.

Without much checking the main developer has implemented a lot of code from someone who wrote something like "safe_mode" and other things. This is now responsible for the crashes. Better to go to the 4.x versions until this is fixed or reverted. You may get it from here:
