Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Eric...
For validation, I have tested OpenCPN 5.10.2 on older Android 5.5.1 system with 4GB ram. It starts and runs, though not very usefully.
Any chance you have not enough free storage for OpenCPN to load properly?
Any change to free storage by deleting unused Apps?
Dave

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Hello Dave,
thanks to follow my issue. I have enough free space on my tablet and it was running fine until now. I just made a new trial to uninstall et reinstall OpenCPN with the same result. I will dig to understand how to fully remove the app and try to get a running new installation, even if I will loose my O-Charts (my main navigation equipment is OpenPlotter on Raspberry). I will post the result later. All my best, Eric

Eric...
You will not lose your o-charts licenses unless you factory-reset your device.
DON'T DO THAT.

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Thanks for this advice. I try again to uninstall, clean cache and data and no more result. Have you a suggestion to the way to get a clean uninstall? I presume that some file keeping a wrong setting is not uninstalled and give this behavior.

Hi Dave,
please receive the logcat file as a doc file.
Many thanks

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Eric...
I have analyzed the attached logcat file.
It appears that the app restarts itself in the middle of the original startup, and then stops.
This sort of error signature usually points to a memory problem of some sort. Either the system memory is insufficient for the app to run, or there is some hardware problem with the memory leading to some random corruption.
The only solution I can recommend now is a factory reset of the device. Drastic measure, I understand. This may, or may not, correct the startup problem of OpenCPN 5.10.2
Sorry I do not have a better solution.
Dave

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Hi Dave,
I was more or less ready to receive this information. So I will make this master reset and try to reinstall the app.
Anyway, I thank you for your attempt to solve the issue.
All my best,
Eric

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Hi Dave, I have made a factory reset on my tablet but no change with OpenCPN. I still got this crash and don't find other log file than logcat and no config file. My tablet is probably too old to follow the last improvement of the app... Anyway I will keep it to operate OpenPlotter on my raspberry with RealVNC.
I can send you more information if you want investigate but I understand very well that you have enough to do with all the more recent equipment.
All my best,
Eric

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
FWIW: A v10 is not to old. A >=5.0 is working here. But I've a A v8.1 where O doesn't start either. There is enough storage memory but the RAM is only 1 GB so I think O v5.10.x needs at least 2 GB of RAM.

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Thanks for your observation Hakan. My tablet is GlaxyA6 with 8 gigabytes RAM, 2 GB free at the moment, and Android 5.1.1. So more RAM but slightly older Android version than the one tested successfully by Dave. All was working fine until the last operation following the O-Charts plugin update.

Re: 5.10.02 Android 10 crash
Eric...
Looking all over the web, I cannot find a Samsung Tabx with Android 5.1.1 and 8GB RAM.
Will you tell me the exact model tab you have, preferably from the official label?
Lilliputian: same information requested.
It seems that the name Samsung Tabx covers about 9 years of production, with specs continually improving. Hard to pin them down.
Thanks
Dave
