Longest distance was probably 500 m with a very large hill in South Africa. Same thing with water cans.
Our experience is that there is almost always a fuel dock. In 27 years, 55,000 miles and 35 countries, including many truly third world countries, we rarely, RARELY, maybe less than half dozen times, had to resort to using jerry cans to obtain fuel (or water either).

We've been in every major or minor port in South Africa, and we did not ever carry a jerry can up a hill of even on a flat place.

We sailed rtw in 2003-2007.

It was about 400 hrs on the engine.

Includes Panama Canal transit (obligatory engine 100% time).

We sailed from the mooring in the Gatun lake to Buena Vista island. The pilot did not initially believe we could sail fast enough but we left our companion boat that was motoring way behind.

I did two circumnavigation, two different yachts.
Generally I used the engine roughly about 1200 hrs a year on the first trip and about 600 on the second.

Sailing 'around' the world doesn't take a heap of hours, it's when you go off the sailing/trade wind route that they seem to add up: In four months/1500 miles punching west across the Med we clocked-up about 300 hours, but I doubt that we doubled those hours in the next 2+ years/7,000 miles from Gibraltar to the USA.
