We are looking at a boat in the Annapolis area to purchase. We plan to sail the Great Loop beginning in April or May. We live in Tucson, AZ and need some local knowledge about best (low cost) places in the area to store the boat for the winter if needed.
This is our big adventure. We are two retired teachers on a budget, but want to do it right! Thanks for any help.

Congratulations! We live on Back Creek in Annapolis and will keep our boat in the water over the winter. You don't mention if the boat is currently in the water or not, may make a difference in price. There are slips available but will depend on length and draft. You can PM me if you'd like more info.
If you are experienced sailors why not take it to the southern Chesapeake Bay where rates are cheaper. Try Deltaville or if you want to be closer to Annapolis try the eastern shore(Kent Island). PM me it you want more details and names of marinas. I'm coming to the Tucson area this winter to do some hiking.
if you intend to work on the boat yourself, be sure the yard you pick will let u do that. bert Jabin in annapolis is the only yard i've heard of that allows it.

Port Annapolis allows it as well, and their rates are cheaper. That said, they have less lot space and are probably full at this point.
I second the idea of getting the boat to Deltaville or really, anywhere but Annapolis where rates are very high for pretty much everything. Deltaville is three days south (if you're only travelling during daylight). A closer but not quite as affordable option is Herrington Harbor North, in Deale. That's about a day south and rates are in between Annapolis and Deltaville.
