I might just bookmark this thread.

Next question ought to be how many days upwind? Lolol i did 14 days upwind solo from Key West to St Martin last year... And up the Red Sea with Nicolle on 2010... I think that was about a week... And was a continuation without stopping of 6 days from Oman.

I think i have right never to go upwind again. Lol
Marianas Islands north to the westerly trades for passage to California was a pretty tough week to windward. Crossing the Carib in mid-December from Panama to Yucatan wasn't quite to windward but it was a very harsh near reach in big beam seas under storm jib and storm tri only. That was a hard week or so sailing, very hard, with great crew to even make it reasonable.

Last big non-stop "offshore" passage in a kayak before buying this boat- 100 miles in 36 hours Cedar Key to Ft Desoto Tampa non-stop. Boat was an 18' Kruger Dreamcatcher with a Balogh Sail Rig, sweet ride but it ain't a Tartan.

Snore... I looked up the boat... It seemed there were no provision for a cooler or icebox.... How did you make do without icy sundowners???

(This passage gets some kind of reward)

Hmmm, my wife is suggesting i take up solo-sailing

LA-nigire sounds like a OSV or tow, I dragged a rig to trinidad one time.
spent a few 90 on 7 off on OS utility boat,my first true hurricane at sea(GOM).
spent more of my life fishing atlantic than ashore, storm of the century and andrew stopped my offshore follies!

Isn't sailing all upwind? i keep my old boat close and watch weather 7 days is plenty. could have ducked in within a day or so going up the atlantic US.

As a matter of fact yes, I was delivering a 220' supply boat. So I guess that doesn't count.

I ran off from Cape May till I got a good bit off shore, then turned left and stayed off the shelf, or on the edge. Coming into Shelborne was a nasty night as I had a lot of traffic around Cape Sable area and had to stand constant watch.

I may do Bermuda this summer. Thinking about it.

Thanks for the compliment. I was out for two sunsets, but the only way to become an old kayaker is to run a dry vessel while on the water.

FWIW knew a guy who on recreational trips would pack steaks in dry ice inside a styrofoam cooler.

Cheers

If you freeze a steak rock hard it will last almost a week in the refridge. Pretty nice a week into a passage.
