The good one's yes

Shane, that was my suspicion. Lots of boats up here getting re-motored by those guys. The old faith BUKH's they are pulling out have to be somewhere....

Yep, I just have to keep exploring until I find the dinosaur graveyard!

Hopefully it will encourage more kids to get into dinghy sailing!

I should have also said a thanks to the Sydney MSB Officers who helped me after my misadventure. I saw they also got a letter of praise for their actions in the same storm in Afloat magazine. It is just a pity they are expected to enforce such draconian legislation.

Re: Toasted ?

Good luck Shane. Went through a similar thing with my ten ton, full keel Molly B. Didn't have to find a new engine but was w/o power.
Out the other side of it 8 months later.
It was pretty frustrating and I often found myself wishing I could just do without, almost sold the boat.
Did once find someone to drag along with me on an enginless 2 week or so local trip and enjoyed every minute of it, though when it was over I wanted to re-christen the boat Patience. Learned a lot about the boat and just how much I liked being on the water. A lot of conservative sailing staying well off shore rounding leeward headlands and on my toes big time when comming in to anchor and plenty more time between points a and b at times.
I agree with others who think you can find a used engine for good money. I did my own installation as well once and w/o much mechanical aptitude though advice help from knowledgeable dockmates made a huge diffference.
You'll be up and running in no time and better for the experience for sure!

Top stuff, after a bit of l heated bidding I won the engine on EBay. The bloke I am buying it off is more than fair about the transaction. It seems like it is in that good a condition, instead of dismantling this and that, it would be easier to do a clean swap and keep mine for parts.

In the meantime, I finished the outboard mount and kicked her over first pull. I also have a little generator that happily runs power tools.

I reckon now if I aim at a serious haul out after Christmas, after that it will be time for some real cruising.

I hope everything is working out just as well for everyone else!
