Re: Sunfish to Coronado Islands

Note that it is illegal to land on any of the Coronado Islands, they are wildlife refuges. If an overnight trip you will likely spend the night bouncing around in the dark with no wind waiting for next day's sunlight and maybe till afternoon until wind fills in. Sounds sort of un-fun to me. I have sailed out and anchored offshore of the middle and south islands before in a 32' sloop, and that was OK but not a comfortable anchorage with very little sleep.

Re: Sunfish to Coronado Islands

Yeah, I've done adventure kayaking.

Paddle out to a remote island, with a tent, and overnight.

I have a small sailing dinghy I've thought of doing the same thing.

(not to Coranado)

The trip looks doable, your main issue is the legality.

Re: Sunfish to Coronado Islands

If you have an iPhone 7 or newer then download google maps and you can use it as a backup gps. 7 and newer are water proof and use true gps.

With google earth you can save an area map and even if you lose cell reception you’ll still have a good position.

I did an 8 day solo paddle through swamp and used my iPhone as my primary gps.
