New boat - same old boat name?

I've been struggling for a year to name my new Chris White - Atlantic 47. We have a bunch of names that we kind of like but after a week or two, they fall flat. Our last boat was an Atlantic 57 named Agility that we sold prematurely. We are considering naming the new one Agility.

Should we append the new boat name with a "2" or just name it Agility?

Is it bad form or a mythological/nautical curse to name a new boat the same as it's predecessor?

I've had the same name on all my boats I've owned for over 30 years and haven't had any bad side effects. Just the same old maintenance stuff all boats have.
Of course having a renaming party to favor the gods of the sea which involves a few drams is well worth the effort. I think many just used it as an excuse for a party.
Even though I'm not superstitious I've always had a ceremony when transferring the name to a new boat, and I've always put a stipulation that the new owner of the old boat has to change the name so there aren't multiple boats with the same name.
If you like the name, why not?

I agree. If I had used numbers I'd be up to IV now.

Ok, I'm becoming convinced. I do really like the 2 on a boat called Never Again but don't think it necessary on Agility.

How do you like your A47? They're great looking designs.

You may as well stay with the old boat name. All your friends and acquaintaces know you by it and you probably have all sorts of business cards and stuff with that name on it. FYI - most of the boats with numbers after the name are Canadian. By law they cannot have two boats in the country with the same name so... if there's a name they really like but it's already taken they have to add the numeral. Enjoy hour new boat.

Not much to say at this point. The boat should be finished in January.

I started naming my boat Southern Star in the early seventies, many boats later my current boat of about 15 months is Southern Star! No numbers! I have seen a couple other boats named the same, so what!

I named by boat "Miserly", but they charge extra for more than 6 letters, so I changed it to "Misery".

I was once considering "Incorrigible" for a boat name...

Not by my doing, somebody had mentioned creating a logo or script theme to an aspiring graphic artist who ran with it...

The draft came back quite frilly when they changed the name to:

Encouragable....

Boaters do tend to be a superstitious lot. I'm not, but why test it. Boat names are personal and should have meaning, however, changing a name is a process, and should be followed; if for nothing else, as lifeofreilly57 said, to have a party.
