Re: Laundry While Cruising

Good Lord ! where ya folks been ?? ya never seen a nylon washing Bag ? they sell em in surplus stores and outdoor stores, just a semi heavy nylon mesh bag with a pull string top. Put your suff in with some salt water soap tye a good line to it toss over board (make sure its tyed to a rail or somewhere LOL) tow for a couple of hours and retrive and rinse with a small amout of fresh water, dry and wear! make white super white !! simple and work free almost, saves fresh water and time Just and oldtimers trick !!

Re: Laundry While Cruising

Now that is a solution I could live with. I have learned not to put poo plumbing overboard to clean it though. Last time a put a little pipe for a soak overnight it had a moray eel (tiny one) that thought it had a new home in the morning. Darn hard to get him out, even after he was on deck. I'd hate to see one of those in your pants.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

We use a Wonder Wash, $40.00 and works great. There's a pic of Brenda[Wayward Wench] using it in port...Michael..

Mesh bag also works......

Pic is on the blogsite

Re: Laundry While Cruising

I tried the Wonder Wash but quickly went back to a bucket and feet. Just seemed more trouble than it was worth. We use one of these wringers which really decreases the amount of work with rinsing.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

Bucket and plunger method works for me--with a little Joy or Dawn dish detergent. I do rinse in fresh water if I have enough to spare.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

Now ladies- No fighting over the soap please . Buckets on board do have the advantage of not picking up critters.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

I would never accuse Zee of fighting, unless she chased me around her boat with her Louisville slugger.

I wonder Zee if the liquid laundry stuff would work well or better. I know it does here at home. I imagine that joy would really suds up.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

Seems to me that the typical laundry detergent is far more powerful than any dish detergent. Seems dish detergent is made to be kind to skin where laundry detergents meant for machine washing are anything but kind to skin. They seem a bit caustic.

Re: Laundry While Cruising

I have been told in the past that there is little difference between dish soap and shampoo other than price and perfume. I'm sure the female sailors here would have something to say about that.
