Very realistic! Buy a laser w/dolley right now for $1500 and sail and
race the crap out of it 3-4x week until you know what you are doing. Then join a keelboat
race crew to get the feel and tempo of that world. In the interim, read everything you can about long-term
blue water cruising (not just about boats!) Then the hunt begins for a
boat suited to your needs. Yachtworld is a great place to indulge in sail porn (as my girlfriend calls it) and comparison shop. The best book I read was Don Casey's 'Inspecting the Aging Sailboat'. Look at a dozen different boats locallyin short succession - even if they are of no interest - to get an idea of how to properly inspect a
boat and what to look for. Downsize your life in anticipation of
living aboard. Get rid of everything extraneous and then sell half of what remains! (Divorce worked well for me). Lots of great boats at decent prices are available-due diligence is self-evident! Good luck...
