Hole in Mast?!

Hi Community,

I just took a closer look at my Dehler's mast:
At a height of about two meters there is a hole in the mast.
Here is a picture:

It looks like somebody shot at it....

Do you have any explanation for this?

Re: Hole in Mast?!

How about a better (focused) photo? Is there a large dent in the mast?

Terra Nova, yes, there is a big dent in the mast, deformed for sure. A kink waiting to happen, perhaps.

Re: Hole in Mast?!

Piss anyone off lately?

The apparrent distortion around the hole would worry me more than the hole itself.

Is there a corresponding hole or dent on the other side?

Re: Hole in Mast?!

looks to me like something heavy, with something sharp sticking out perhaps, hit it, perhaps when it was being hauled out? I too find the dent more troublesome than the hole but hard to tell if its a deal breaker....
welcome aboard BTW!

Meteorite. Mystery solved...

All jokes aside you might want to get a rigger to fix the dent.

Re: Hole in Mast?!

If that is a dent, your mast will need to be replaced, or possibly it can be repaired by being sleeved after straightening out the dent. Perhaps the hole was drilled in an effort to pull out the dent.

Re: Hole in Mast?!

the bullthole we had in our mast from Eritrea looked totally different: no dent, bullet had gone through like through butter, exit hole pretty smooth too, hardly any burr or sharp edge (assault rifle, range 20m)

So why was someone shooting at you with assault rifle?

Re: Hole in Mast?!

A small caliber bullet fired from distance would leave a dent just like that, possibly .22 or .38 although I would expect to see a mark from the lead or copper of the bullet at edges.
