Challenge. . .

. . . of trimming the sails correctly for the wind conditions.
. . . of finding your way into a new port without running aground.
. . . of getting a badly needed repair part a place far from civilization.
. . . of making do with what is at hand when unsuccessful with the previous challenge.
. . . of not becoming bored on the 5th day of a long passage.
. . . of getting accurate weather predictions.
. . . associated with venturing out having failed to overcome the previous challenge.

Maybe not so much the challenges themselves but the gratification of meeting them - but that would change my word and mess up this post!

Independence

Which happens to be the name of my boat. It came with that name but I like it and I'm going to keep it.

REBELLION!!!

Screw western civilization! The rat race! The confinement and conformity of a 9 to 5 job! A five-day workweek that has now turned into 7! I always was a bit of a rebel, my teachers in sociology and psychiatry referred to me as a champion of the under dog after reading my essay in college. Though I have a degree in English and Photography. But where I am heading I think I better take some Spanish.

I was an English major, as well, and I don't remember seeing a psychiatry course on the list of electives. Is it possible that was a psychology course?

Insight.

... as in, harmony with nature and your inner self - the joy of singlehandling.
