I
lost a screw
mooring, and can’t remember the ranges I used to locate it 5 years ago. I got the bright idea of going back in time on
Google Earth to see the
boat on the
mooring. I was able to get 3 clear pictures of it laying in different headings. That gave me a rough position for the mooring.
Google Earth’s Lat/Lon seem to have enough error, so using a handheld makes for too much ground to search (Zero Vis). I always have used ranges to locate such things with great accuracy, but that only works if you know where the mooring REALLY is when you take the sights.
I was able to use the measure function in GE to superimpose a line, but there has to be an easier way. The chart for this area really sux, so “real” charting programs are little use. Any Ideas?
