Re: Calling engineers to build something!

What is the product you are advertising?
Putting up floating billboards is just boring and an eyesore.
If you want to get attention, you need to be creative.
Get one of these and hire someone with the required talent to sail it,
you can be sure it will get attention.

Re: Calling engineers to build something!

An old Hobie, or old plastic ex-rental kayaks. and some 2x2s. PM me for the address to send the cheque

I have been to Florida, and know what kind of visual 'clutter' can be found, and I've worked in advertising... but I do think that some sort of floating towed billboard might be a step too far. But I only go to Florida once in a while

I recall a flight of para-planes (or whatever they're called) going over the beach. Just about everyone watched. Can those things tow ad banners?

Finally, I think that a fleet of Hobies or even windsurfers, with ads on the sails (Hobies may also be able to tow a banner) would have better impact - they're more entertaining to watch, and you've provided work to some healthy young photogenic sailors.

You could always catch a bunch of mullet and paint little billboards on their sides and then when they jump out of the water, people would see the advertisement.

Re: Calling engineers to build something!

This is funny.

The same people who hate "eyesore" advertising get mad when homeowners try to restrict anchoring rights.

But it's different, isn't it. A boat is a wonderful addition to natural beauty. And if the boat is scaring off birds the homeowners love, well, the homeonwers just have their priorities wrong.

Advertising off the beach, bad. Boat anchored off the beach, good.

Re: Calling engineers to build something!

There's more than enough eye pollution already without more of this in-your-face-buy-me crap. One of the refreshing things about our trip to Germany was the lack of billboards.
One thought re this was marine solar charging station for hire at moorings, something useful & beneficial.

I see, no advertising unless it might be of interest to you.

You should make a list. I'm sure your thoughts about what is useful and beneficial will be shared by everyone.

Good. That way it makes a great moving target. Sharpen my shooting skills.

Re: Calling engineers to build something!

I would go out of my way to avoid a business that advertised with a billboard in the water. Terrible idea! I own a small business and would never advertise that way! Pay to get your ad on a spinnaker in a local race and support sailing and not your greedy self.

Rather than a giant sign, print your logo on a tiny bikini...I would look at that at the beach.

It would either be towed by a 30ft sailboat or 21 foot bowrider.

Absolutely not. In fact I was saying to the admiral just the other day "You know I wish this tranquil beach/anchorage looked more like Times Square. Maybe a few billboards on the beach, or some other form of advertising"

Seriously.......... No I do not appreciate your marketing.

A boat with two masts is twice the eyesore of a boat with just one. You should sell your boat and donate the money to a good cause.

Definitely not sailing, though. Just a bunch of people driving their eyesores from here to there. No place is really safe from them. Imagine waking up in the morning and there, out your breakfast window, is a boat in your bay. Probably running its generator, making noise and emitting foul odors. Probably flushing their poop right onto your beach.

The horror.

Errr... don't use that on a windy day!
Just buy an old Hobie cat and mod it.
Or better yet, buy a big catamaran and write it off as a business loss!

Just so we have an idea what we're talking about, here you go.

Just doesn't seem too attractive to me, but as Cottontop suggests, there may be bias involved.
