A new threat while cruising?

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/05/te...ore-ipad-share

Hate to bump one of these in the night or reduced visibility. Hopefully they have plenty of strobes and AIS.

What are you cruising? An Opti?

Looks like a very fragile thing. You smash it, you crush it. That owner has a problem, not you.

What are the chances of hitting these things? Hell, I can't find my crab pots out there two days in a row....just saying.

Re: A new threat while cruising?

Best guess is this thing is 14' long 18' tall, weighs <300lbs, and is nothing more than a thin carbon shell.

Hit it with anything but a rib and it will disintegrate like an egg.

Re: A new threat while cruising?

it 's probably worth millions and has built in collision avoidance / if it is looking for submarines it will hear you coming at 2nms

Re: A new threat while cruising?

I suspect that they are no real threat compared to mostly-sunken containers.
23 foot and they rent for $2500 per day, but cannot be bought.
Maybe cost millions now, but when there are thousands -- about the cost of our boats. Wild guess.
Avoidance and AIS. My guess is no.

Re: A new threat while cruising?

currently have three such units, ready for sale,
albeit a very different design,
very much more stealth capable, radar invisible etc.
but it comes with AIS ++ and a bunch of other stuff.

Per unit negotiable,
depending on configuration,
350k (USD) (FOB very easy)

Available for inspection currently in Asia.

just PM me.

Owners will probably be much less interested in collisions than a cruiser..
