^^^Same book the guy at Bacon Sails & Marine supplies recommended to me today. Amazon wish listed!

Chatted with him for probably an hour and a half talking about electric, looking at all my drawings and getting the right wire. (Then I helped talk to him about new credit card processing terminals that wouldn't kill him)

Walked away with
10' of 10/2
A spool of 14/2 Safety wire
A spool of 14/2 standard wire
A spool of 12/2 standard wire

For all my outlets and cabin lites, should have enough to rewire all the exterior lights too.

Returned all the junk to Home Depot. $200 extra for my safety and others is a small price to pay.

Thanks to everyone for the help!

Not so much junk, just not the right material for the job at hand.

Now, please tell me you're not going to use auto crimps on the ends of your nice marine grade wire!

Re: Wiring Question (is UF cable fine for marine grade)

Use only tinned copper wire to give you trouble free life.
The wire must be multi strand to withstand the movements and vibrations on board. Where ever you can, solder and heat shrink the joints. This will save you countless hours of future problems.

Nope. Got connectors at Bacon to go with my wire, I'll try to save a few bucks where I can. But not when it'll cause headaches down the road or effect safety.

Overall expected build price was about $10k originally. Now I think my all in will be closer to $8,000, maybe less. Although that money "saved" will just end up getting allocated elsewhere.

14/3 is only good for 15 amp 120v, Need 12/3 for 20 amp 120v.
