Wireless Wind direction/speed indicator

Has anyone installed a Garmin WIRELESS wind speed direction instrument and if so how is working. How often do u have to replace the battery at the top of the mast. What is your overall opinion.

Re: Wireless Wind direction/speed indicator

We have had a Nexus system for 4 years. Garmin bought them. Battery lasts 3 years, but the mast top unit only lasted 3 years too. Frankly, Garmin is clueless about this product. It took 4 shipments to solve what we thought was a battery problem, and each time we had to pay with a credit card for each shipment, to be refunded when we returned. They shipped us bad product, wrong product, extra product. You name it, finally we had to jury rid a black box to reprogram the replacement unit the sent. But now it works, and we did get our deposits back.

But really, Garmin support is clueless. However, the product DOES work, and works well.

Re: Wireless Wind direction/speed indicator

Recently installed the Garmin wireless wind speed unit. Haven't been able to use it except at dock. (Engine belly up)

Seems to work well, very sensitive but wind direction appears very stable. Not keen on having to pay someone to go up the stick every few years to replace the battery. The shop I bought it from is only a mile or so away and they are authorized repair center.
