Windows-7 & Pactor Modem Compatibility ?

I need to replace the failing laptop that we use with the Pactor modem. Has anyone successfully installed and used the Pactor on a laptop running Windows-7?

Thanks, G

I bought my Pactor from these guys and still using it with an XP, but they told me that when I have to move to 7 I should call them. Very helpful and knowledgeable and they are sailors too. Give them a try.

Greg, We are doing it right now with no problems. ours is an older Pactor with a USB to serial cable and we just had to make sure the cable and drivers are Windows 7 compatible. Works fine with Winlink. No different than when we ran it in Vista. Chuck

Interesting that you ask that question in a post with a link that is selling consulting services that should answer the question.

The Pactor modem could care less about the operating system. You have two issues: 1. appropriate drivers (see the SCS web site) for either a PTC-IIusb or appropriate drivers for whatever serial-USB converter you use with a PTC-IIpro and 2. compatibility with whatever client software you use (often Airmail) for e-mail over HF radio. Airmail works fine on Windows 7 using the same configurations that work on Vista.

Agreed - the only issue with Windows 7 & even then only 64 bit version, was floating point error with IcePack plug-in propagation module to Airmail. This was cured by a later version which is now packaged with latest Airmail installation files - see here

Fudge -- somehow I completely confused the link and posters. My apologies to all concerned. My bad.
