Re: Wind Sensor Fail

The nice thing about the LCJ CV-7 is that you won't need to have the N2K backbone run up the mast. Due to the height of the mast, you normally have to put the backbone up the mast with the terminating resistor on it at the device. That just seemed to me to be a failure waiting to happen, at a most inconvenient spot.

I consider the CV-7 with the N-0183 coming down the mast with only simple 4-wire cable to be a simpler design. RS-422 (N-0183) is just a differential version (with multi-listener) of the veritable RS-232 that has been around since 1960 or so. Rock solid reliable tech and at the bottom of the mast just slap the LCJ WINDYPLUG on the 4 wires and you have N2K at the bottom of the mast... with the terminating resister conveniently located.

My 2 cents,

Re: Wind Sensor Fail

Reviving this thread to ask dockhead what sensor he ultimately installed. I’m about to pull the trigger on a CV-7, and I figured I’d ask what you installed and how it’s worked out for you.

Re: Wind Sensor Fail

Not sure about Dockhead, but I'm had the CV-7 for almost two years and it just works, no drama. Looks like there are some other cheaper alternatives now, but I would still buy it again.

Re: Wind Sensor Fail

It took me a moment to remember that the CV7C was... and while it's faster at updating it would be parallel with my my Metz antenna and 6-8" away.
