Which Brand of EPIRB

Looking at 2 different models. I know ACR is very popular but don't know much about McMurdo. Thanks in advance......

Got an ACR..Customer service is great:

They send me new stuff like an antenna and some other "updated" stuff for my old EPIRB and also helped me hook it up to the ships fixed mount GPS.

No charge, just pleasant folks.

We have the ACR 406 with internal GPS Aquafix.
It was the cheapest on the market and it hasn't sunk the boat yet, but the dinghy is a real worry

Think ACR = US and McMurdo = UK/EU
That's all the difference I think as they are both SOLAS units. McMurdo has service worldwide too so it's just which one is easiest or cheapest to buy.

cheers,
Nick.

We have ACR - one advantage an extra year of battery life (technology will be so much better we will dispose of it properly at end of life). Main advantage, however, was my club did a bulk purchase at 60% of the normal price. Within the reputable brands, I would look for:

[1] Long battery life (I think new ACR, etc units are now 7 years); and
[2] Price increment to get GPS (which has come down on many brands, and is a definite advantage if you are in the water ...)

Thanks for all the good info. Seems like both are good units but will probably get the ACR.

I'm leaning towards the manually deployable as not sure if I really trust the hydrostatic release.
