The installer was hanging from the boom by his feet while he was installing this. I believe this would merit a good old fashioned keelhauling. Can we still do that? LOL

Dan, you must have hired one of our local boatwrights. SOP for these guys is to start that thousand dollar job, tell you they need to remove something for "access", then tell you that $10000 piece they just removed needs to be completely rebuilt.This news usually comes right about the time they complete taking everything apart.
I used to get solicited to work on other people's boats when I was working on my wood boats in the yard. I thought I solved that problem by keeping a level at the top of my tool bag, or sitting around the scaffold somewhere. Oddly enough, these guys that can't seem to put stuf together the right direction until they are sure you are out of money, are the only ones who noticed it.

I am pretty much a time vs. money guy now. I like odd-jobbing on the boat but frankly, I'll pay to get stuff fixed and save my weekends for sailing.

You all probably remember my pulpit issue. Someone crashed into it and it's off the boat. Our regular mechanic took it upon himself to straighten it, weld new feet and anchor bolts on it and actually has done a decent job.

The problem is I didn't ask him to do it. Well I discussed with him and told him I need a quote to fill the 4 holes in the deck, mount the pulpit and touch up the paint.

I got the quote in the mail yesterday. $1,800 bucks PLUS materials and the cost to repair the pulpit which is still unspecified. I laughed out loud. This guy is nuts. He's also out of a job as this is the last straw.

His $1,600 bottom fouling job (of July) which was supposed to be 4 coats is already showing the primer after one cleaning. I haven't paid for that and don't plan to.

I am meeting this clown on Saturday to pay him up on what we really owe him, get our pulpit back and wish him good luck in his future.

I am debating whether I pay him a token for the pulpit repair, which as a mechanic myself I consider fair enough. The guy's trying to make a living. It's not entirely his fault he's an diot.
