What's Up with My Bow Light?

I was getting ready to leave the slip to go watch some fireworks the other night when I realized my red/green bow light wasn't working. Upon checking it out, I noticed the top screw had come loose, was hanging out of the housing, and was quite bent. I tried getting it to fit back inside the housing but had no luck; with the bend, I couldn't get it straight back in or figure out if it went another way at an angle.

Any ideas here - is it fixable, do I need a new one? I have no idea what made it come loose or bend like that, as I haven't hit anything, etc. I wasn't able to get a photo, but I found one online and attached it here for reference.

Replace the screw?
You may be surprised at the cost of a replacement light

If the fixture is in good shape, keep it. Put a dab of LockTite (not an agressive variety) on the tip of new screw.

If the light doesn't work maybe someone has taken your LEDs and didn't put the screws back properly?

Re: What's Up with My Bow Light?

The screw has a retainer to keep it from falling out. I don't know how hard it is to defeat the retainer, I've never tried it. I'd pull the other screw, remove the lens, and try to straighten the bent one with a couple pairs of pliers.
If you can't straighten it, any decent hardware store should have metric SS screws. Won't be exactly the same but should work.

Loosen the top and bottom screw, and take the entire lens assembly off. Replace the bulb with new one. Straighten the screw. Put back on. There are retention pieces on the screw to keep it from coming completing out. If you force it, you will break the plastic housing. There is also a rubber gasket that you don't want to stop in water when you decide lens.

I'd it's an led model, disregard what I wrote. It will be sealed unit. But that looks like a regular bulb model.

If that bow light is the brand I think it is, it's worth about $20. I just put one on my rail, only to drop the tiny little post screw in the water!

Re: What's Up with My Bow Light?

Thanks for the replies everyone. It is a regular bulb, not an LED, and there is a retainer to keep the screw in (or I'd have dropped it several times by now). I'll try taking the whole thing off and straightening the screw first.
