I love the way the wires were dressed and bundled. Not the spaghetti seen in so many " boats for sale " that are a fire looking for a place to happen from chafing. Whoever did it knew what they were doing.

Thanks.
Stick on labels from label books work, but are a pain. One neat method is to type all of your labels on the computer and then print out a sheet of them. Cut them out and slip them under bits of clear shrink tube.

Re: What the heck is this for?

As stated previously, it is a standard DIN rail mount system. The DIN rail is usually 35mm correct-section, with a plethora of terminals/mounts which affix to the rail. Phoenix, Weidmuller and Wago are but three companies manufacturing terminal blocks which can be used on the DIN rail.
DC circuits have either Weidmuller terminals (single circuit from a circuit breaker) or Phoenix terminals (with ATCO fuse slots) if it is a sub-circuit from a circuit breaker.

There are several brands of label-makers which can print heat-shrink sleeves with the circuit or wire ID details. I prefer Brady wire/label maker for the heat-shrink sleeves.

My electrical installation, both AC and DC use DIN rails, BUT, separate rails for AC and DC.
Also, I have a separate set of rails for the electronics (data/NMEA) circuits.
All DC wires are M22759/16-xx-xx (aviation-grade tinned copper).
The AC rail is earth-bonded.
The DC rails are 0vdc bonded.

An interesting project to be sure.

Wow. That makes my setup look like the kid's table. Incredibly well done.

Appreciate all the replies and helpful info from everyone so far – keep it coming!

Re: What the heck is this for?

Thanks.

Oh, and each DC circuit is a single run (+12v and 0v). From memory, I used about 850m of M22759 wire to all the DC-powered equipment.

The blue "thingies" are relays - DPDT and SPST. The brand is FINDER (Portuguese I believe) These are for the gen-set start/run/stop circuits, bilge pumps shower sump pumps, and A/C sump pumps (float switch activates relay which then closes contacts to power respective pump), with a couple of spare relays mounted the rail.

The white rectangles on the switchboard are where the CB label goes (was waiting for sign-writer to print the labels when I took the pix).

Let me know if you need any further information.

Re: What the heck is this for?

The metal rail is a DIN rail
What's mounted is a Patch / Junction rail.
This allows the boat to be "bulk cabled", and then those cables to be patched to breakers as may be needed, and in some cases, joined together.
eg. 6 wires for lighting - port fwd, port aft, stb fwd, stb aft, salon, cockpit.
Those go to 6 blocks, with a 6 way bridge, then a single breaker, for power.
Also allows spare wires for future.
eg. Wire 703. Spare. Patch in as you need.
My boat has it. It's great and flexibe. I can re-purpose cables easily.

Re: What the heck is this for?

What is the purpose of this grey bank (highlighted in red)?

My gosh, I wish every boat was like that. Very very nice.

Are you selling the boat?
