VHF Plug in Cockpit

A trivial problem, but one I could use some help with.

I installed a RAM mic on our VHF radio since I am going deaf and getting old and couldn't hear the radio inside the boat. I attached the plug on the side of cockpit, adjacent to the binnacle, about shin high. I wasn't thinking, but now that it's there, someone is gonna kick it and potentially break the plug.

I'd like to install something over the plug to protect it. I was thinking about a u-bolt, but maybe there is a better idea.

Suggestions?

Re: VHF Plug in Cockpit

What do the cord and receptacle look like? I suspect you can't have anything directly over the receptacle because it would be difficult to plug in the cord.

Stainless steel U-Bolts actually sound like a decent solution but I would use two and put them vertically on each side of the receptacle such that you still have easy access to plug in the cord. And have them extend out far enough that they sufficiently protect the entire rigid portion of the cord's plug.

Re: VHF Plug in Cockpit

Place two U bolts either side of the RAM mike panel outlet. This will unfettered allow access to the connector , but. prevent it getting hit by things

U bolts are just another thing to bang into and cause injury. Better to admit the error and just move the plug.

Yeah, I like the u-bolt idea but I have to agree with Illusion. I already have enough things to stub a toe or bang a knee or shin on. I would seriously consider moving it rather than add another obstacle.

Re: VHF Plug in Cockpit

With some google-sleuthing, you may be able to find a recessed box and mount the plug in it.

Here is an example, but not the one I'd use.
