VHF

I have been hearing some disturbing reports of late on the status of VHF. One sailor attempting to hail the harbor master was ignored on a VHF hail and had to place a cel call (Which was answered on the first ring) Is VHF dieing because of cel service?

No, VHF is not dying.
As DSC becomes more prevalent, it's utility will increase.
Regards,
Gord

Port masters answering VHS hail

I have just heard lately that the Coast Gaurd has asked harbour masters to only answer hails on thier channel published in the guides. They want 16 left for ONLY emergency calls. I don't think that is all 16 is ment for but as long as I can still get an answer I realy don't care what channel I have to use. And I like having a published guide for the waters I am sailing anyway
