VDO NMEA2000 wind sensor

Anyone have any experience with this unit? I'm looking to replace a Garmin GWS-10 wind sensor and the VDO looks like a potential plug'n'play replacement. The Garmin windvane keeps falling off or gets stolen by ospreys, rendering it useless. Except for that little detail, the Garmin sensor works well.
