Uploading Navionics Charts to Axiom
Is it possible to use Navionics (online transferred) charts I purchased for my tablets on my new Axiom MFD? I tried asking Raymarine and it's probably because I'm getting old but it didn't make any sense. I have an SD card with charts of the US and Canada but I'm not there.

Not as far as I know. You need to purchase them separately. I run Axiom MFD and it requires a card. you can update the maps either by connecting Axiom to WiFi or by taking the card and updating it on a computer.
Reach out to Navionics, they are fairly responsive.

Thanks, George. I assume you're right. I'll contact them. If oitherwise I'll report back.
I don't suppose either of the others, CMAP or Lighthouse, can be downloaded onto a tablet and then transferred over. I assume the old CMAP 93 charts won't work.

Nah you need to buy the card but once you do, you can manually update and renew.

The mobile charts are desperate from the MFD charts. You just need to purchase the chart card, or the rights to download the chart data for the MFD.

So, I can use Navionics, CMap, or Lighthouse Charts. I'm told. Does any body have anything good or bad to say about one relative to the others? (for ocean voyaging, not fishing)

Re: Uploading Navionics Charts to Axiom
I prefer the c-map cartography for most areas. Our US charts are Navionics, Bahamas and elsewhere are c-map. With the c-map I get the option of raster or vector, known cartography agencies, etc. and they make my eyes happier vs Navionics.

Re: Uploading Navionics Charts to Axiom
With Navionics i get really fancy relief shading. It's much easer to read than typical depth lines.

Re: Uploading Navionics Charts to Axiom
I'll try to find some sample CMAP Charts. I assume they're MUCH better than the C-Map93 I use on OpenCPN. I've never met anybody that used Lighthouse. I use Navionics on my devices. I'm happy withy that except occasionally it's off quite a bit. In central Kenya going in to a river through breakers it was, thankfully, right on. In southern Kenya off by 1/2 nm. I think accuracy is the most important feature. I also have iSailor and they aren't always the same. Does anyone think one set is more accurate than another? I wouldn't think so. And they all seem comparable in price; quite a bit more than charts my tablets use (I wonder why.) but a better deal than paper charts.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: Uploading Navionics Charts to Axiom
Here are two pictures of Navionics chart areas. The one I downloaded for my tablets covers all Asia, Indian Ocean, South Pacific, and all of Africa! That was $39.99. The one for my mfd could cover the Mozambique Channel (African side only!) for $149.99. Are SD cards that expensive? What gives?
