unidentified radio

I have a small radio (looks like an under dash CB radio) that I can't find any information about. I have spent at least an hour looking for the model and the manufacturer on the web to no avail.

The manufacturer is southern Marine research.
The model name is "Striker".
the model number is: ST – 8000

it has four buttons:

CH 16
power low/high
13/67 override
USA INT' L

there is a six position selector switch below the buttons:
dual
normal
WX1
WX2
WX3
WX4

The radio has three other knobs, as well as a small liquid crystal channel display:

volume/SQL combo
channel

This radio is brand-new. I am trying to determine its functionality.
Is this a Marine band radio?
is this a CB radio?
Perhaps it is a combo radio.

let me thank those that respond in advance
let me thank the whole board for being here
but most of all let me thank Al Gore for inventing the Internet

Hope all are having a good day

Re: unidentified radio

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, ampedtech.

The Southern Marine Research (SMR) Striker Model ST-8000 appears to have been a Marine VHF Radio.

Re: unidentified radio

From your description, it is certainly a marine VHF radio. Whether it works or not is not addressed, but if you have access to any other working VHFsimple tests can determine functionality.

Cheers,

Jim

Re: unidentified radio

Make certain you have an antenna attached before trying to transmit. That's information for you just in case you are not a radio guy.

kind regards,

Re: unidentified radio

I am really surprised that such knowledgable posters such as GM, JC and SJ are all wrong on this one.

This radio is not a marine radio and is really is just a POS - I am sorry to be the one who has to tell you still but I take it off your hands and dispose of it at no charge to you - expect you will have to cover the freight to Oz - still its a good deal; you will be unlikely to find a better deal - CF is all about helping each other out

By the way, welcome aboard Ampedtech
