It was tested recently be Practical Boat Owner in the UK, two different systems. Conclusion was that it worked very well, although it did not inhibit some kind of creature called a "sea squirt", which congregated en masse on the test boats. But these were not deemed to be a problem on a boat that moves. Altogether the article was very positive.

Wow. So it attracts Sea Squirts. Getting mobbed by sea squirts when going for a dip may not be pleasant, but could be an acceptable side-effect. Maybe they make a nice salad.

There are two systems, the Boatsonic is more expensive, but is I think more powerful, and more likely to be effective.

$4k is quite a lot to lay down though.

Interesting. This system would pass currents through your boat -isolated or not, your boat would become part of the circuit. I suspect it is an AC system.

They show a buoy in the brigth spark add bright as a new penny after six months in the water. Quite impressive.

I did foind another thread on this technology

http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...g-17969-3.html

Seems like a verdict has yet to be reached.

I remember poking my finger in an ultrasonic humidifier a few years back - EXTREMELY painful when approaching the transducer. I have no doubt this technology works if the power is high enough, but that may be a big if.

I've just realized how the electric system works. It's putting copper ions into the environment around the boat like conventional anti-fouling.

We looked at a Prout that had the boatsonic system. You will NOT want to be aboard for long while it's in operation..... and any liveaboard neighbors in your marina will love ya for sure....

I've decided to go for the sonic approach rather than the ultra. Rap music connected to loudspeakers connected to the hull. I think this repels 99% of lifeforms, certainly does me.
