Wotname - I am suprised to find that you are still here and not locked up after revealing the highly secret Australian URS system.

At least you didn't spill the beans on the AIS (that is the Australian Interception System) which now covertly picks up VHF traffic all around the world and ducts it into the URS. Was very clever of the Australians, especially the tricking of the IMO into mandating that many vessels have to carry AIS under the cover of being an Automatic Identification System without them realising the hidden Australian functionality in it.

Perhaps because the system is a dud, they are too embrassed to lock me up.

I would guess that all VHF signals in the EU fall down under automatically after reaching the horizon??!!

cheers,
Nick.

Of course, that must be it, in the northern hemisphere (especially above say 45 N), gravity is helping to pull the VHF signals down towards the ground thus bending them while here down under, they are falling away from the ground. That must be why the above mentioned URS system works so great in Oz and NZ etc. Learning something new every day on CF.

Thanks S/V J.
