Vic Poor, W5SMM, M/V Tortoise passed away this morning after a long illness. Vic was a contributor to the early development of microprocessors and what is now our cellular telephone system. As a cruising sailor himself, Vic built the APLINK system and was the principal architect of Winlink
Classic and Winlink 2000 (WL2K). Together with others including Rick Muething, Jim Corenman, and Stan Honey, cruising sailors across the world owe their reliable
communications over
SSB to Vic and the team he worked with.
For those who would like to recognize the impact Vic had on communication from cruisers at sea, you can send your thoughts to
W5SMM@auspiciousworks.com; Dave on S/V Auspicious will consolidate your notes and send them to his
family.
