TackTick depth sounder issue

Hi all, from the start my TackTick depth sounder showed correct depth up to 15-20 m, whereas with deeper bottoms the reading bounced randomly (as 24-87-32-64-57 and so on on a flat seabed). Assuming the transducer (Airmar depth& temp) was shot, i bought a new one - resulting in the same erratic behavior. Temperature reading is fine. Has anyone experienced this issue, are there solutions?

Our Tacktick gives accurate (with exceptions: below) results up to about 60-90m, beyond which it flashes no result (ie too deep).

Sometimes we get clearly erroneous results: e.g., 2m when in very deep water. We have another older brand of depth installed, and we check/compare and they both give the same result in this situation. So real and likely related to sealife (fish, plankton, or even weed) prevalent in BC waters.

So no, we haven't had your issues.

What is your installation of transducer like? Does it need cleaning?

Our Tacktick/Airmar transducer doesn't like muddy bottoms and will bounce around. Other than too deep it typically works fine.
