Starlink Mini Mounting Options
Is anyone using the included pipe mount, to mount a Starlink Mini on a pushpit?
What are people doing with this?

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
I know several cruisers using the StarLink Mini included pole mount with ~2” dia poles [PVC and Aluminum reported] with no complaints. [Two transited to Mexico from Alaska this year with no reported issues with that mount.]
Our Mini is mounted under a fore hatch [tempered glass] and worked well in that position.
If I chose to mount it on a SS rail today, I would use one of these custom adapters with threads [1” -14] for a standard marine antenna base: [I have not seen one in person, but this is the most robust design I have seen to date…]

Or one of their direct rail mount adapters?
In case any of this is useful.
Cheers, Bill

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
Get a stainless steel rail mount fishing rod holder and flip it upside down. Attach with the pipe clamp.

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
I have a length of schedule 40 1.5" PVC that is hose clamped to the stern rail. It is just long enough to put the Mini level with my solar panels. It's a very good fit with the pipe clamp mount.
The PVC pipe also makes a handy spot to store my boat hook sometimes.

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
I'm following with interest, because I think that the plastic mount/slide on the Mini unit itself where the pipe is inserted and held by a screw is not deep enough and may be the weakest link for a permanent mount, no?
Would it be able to sustain high winds, etc?

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
I just bought a mini, and the pipe mount appears to be pretty cheesy. However, the mini is significantly lighter than the Gen3 it replaced and the stock mount might be adequate.

I will agree, the pipe mount does seem somewhat on the less robust side. But, as noted the Mini itself is very light and small. I don't have mine permanently mounted because that's not how I use it. So I probably would not leave it up in a squall, and I don't use it underway.
They just sent me a survey full of questions and now I wish I had mentioned they could beef up the mount a bit !

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
Thanks for all the input.
I have an old GlobalStar sat phone antenna on a pole on my pushpit. Maybe I'll get rid of that and try mounting the Starlink Mini on that.
That pole is clamp mounted and not too robust, but the Mini is no bigger than the old GlobalStar so maybe it will work.

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
Amazon now has several Mini cables, cases and mouting options such as the one below.

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
I mounted mine with the rail mount from Dark Star Marine Hardware shown in a picture shown above in this thread. Works well. I got good customer support from the owner answering my questions.

That one looks good, almost at the same level as the rail. Their website doesn't mention - is it plastic or aluminum?

It's very hard plastic.

Re: Starlink Mini Mounting Options
Looks nice. And from another thread on this forum, this variant:
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Starlink-...s%2C132&sr=8-7
Which looks fantastic. Looks like we have a lot of choice.

I've considered getting the mini for the power reduction and the non motorized base and considered mounting it in the forward hold (I haven't tried this yet, but the hull is cored fiberglass with no metal in that part and I wonder if that would keep it out of the elements, and allow decent communications. Probably going to put my Gen1 in there when I get of the dock next time and test it out.
Those domes on the super yachts are made of fibreglass (I think) and not advertising my starlink to every port I pull into would be nice as well. So if I made some rails that could support the unit, place it right against the fibreglass and give it a test, I'll let you know.
