Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

I have just purchased a Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio (that’s a mouthful).I would like to connect it to the boats Raymarine Sea ng network and hoping to be able to access the AIS display from the I70 in the cockpit. Can anyone help with the correct connection details, cables required etc.

Gwen, I don't know the answer to your question, but I have the same issue. As I work through it over the next few weeks, I'll let you know what I did and how it turns out. My radio is the same as yours, but I will be feeding a Raymarine E80 chartplotter.

you need a Seatalk NG to NMEA 2000 conversion cable, a NMEA Tee, wire and terminator cap.

The E80 is NMEA 183. Straight wires if you have the manual.

Re: Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

Gwen, do you also have a RM networked MFD anywhere on the boat? If so, I believe you should be able to connect the Matrix to the MFD via NMEA 0183, (as The Office pointed out), and your MFD would share it over the network. For the newer "lower case" series (a, c, e) the 183 data pairs are in the same cable as the power and video in.

Sounds correct to me, though we had an electronics tech install ours and hook up to our Garmin 741. We have all Raymarine instruments on the network. We found Garmin and Standard Horizon tech support to be very helpful, but Raymarine - not so much!

Very pleased with the results - only wish we could transmit AIS - but prices will come down sometime.

Re: Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

I can't give you the technical details, as I didn't do it myself - but we have the same radio and did get it connected to our Raymarine (C90W) MFD successfully, by a Raymarine dealer's tech. Once connected it's been great - but I do recall some tricky settings issues - about different baud outputs and the like. If you're not good w/ such things my suggestion is to go straight to a Raymarine guy....but do it - it is great.

We also added a Raymarine LifeTag MOB alarm system - that also ties into the MFD, and lifejacket/harnesses with integrated AIS beacons - so if someone goes OB we'll first have an alarm for immediate awareness, and then a beacon that will put their real time location right on our chart plotter.....

Hi Gwen, I contacted Standard Horizon here in UK and they kindly emailed me the connections to connect my Matrix DSC radio with AIS to my Raymarine E7 Chartplotter which in turn is networked with Seatalk ng to my i70 MFDs. I'm sure if you contact them in the US, they will do the same.

To connect a NMEA 0183 device to a Raymarine STng network you need:

1. ActiSense NGW-1 (converts NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000),
2. Raymarine A06045 cable (adapts NMEA 2000 to STng)
3. Raymarine STng backbone T (connects A06045 into backbone)
4. Raymarine STng backbone extension cable (enable new T insertion into the backbone)

You won't require another backbone terminator, as the network already has two. (You may have to shift the existing terminator though, if you attach the new device to the end of the original backbone, rather than insert it in the middle.

Great radio BTW.

Re: Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

I'd like to revisit the GX2200.

I notice that there is a DSC out... which presumably goes to a plotter. What would be plotted? Is this for the plotting of other DSC distress calls (received)

If the unit has an internal GPS why/when would one use external GPS?

Thanks!

A DSC VHF call can be seen on the plotter - where the call is made from (position) is shown on the screen.

Exactly what and how is displayed varies between units.

Good use when you want to visualise e.g. a DSC Mayday or get a buddy boat show up on your plotter (after a buddy position DSC call).

methodology: look up SH manual - note the sentence, check the sentence on google, check if your plotter accepts this sentence, then plug and test (you cannot test Mayday DSC pop up, but you can test track buddy DSC).

Similar to AIS MOB, AIS VNB, etc.

Some insight here into how it is visualised on various brands:

Re: Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

RamblinRod is correct, if you were only to connect via the NMEA wires direct to the MFD, you will have the AIS and DSC functions on the MFD, however the Raymarine MFD's won't act as a bridging device and won't relay any of the data to other MFD's or i70 displays etc.....
For full functionality do what RambliRod suggested and this will put the data straight into the STng backbone for all devices to share.

Re: Standard Horizon Matrix AIS/GPS GX2200 VHF Radio integration to Raymarine

if I connect AIS nmea183 into a raymarine plotter it won't share that info to other plotters via network or STNG? every other brand does. guess I'll find out tomorrow, hooking some up.

Garmin defiantly shares ais
