Standard Horizon GX2200

What is the difference between the SH GX2200 and the GX2200E?
Both appear to be VHF transceivers with DSC, GPS and AIS

European model. Different frequency scheme. IMHO

Re: Standard Horizon GX2200

Check the range, I just delivered a boat with an VHF/AIS radio that had a 2nm range. Sort of useless

????

There’s something wrong here, no matter what range you’re talking about.

Re: Standard Horizon GX2200

Hey.
Both the GX2200 and GX2200E have the ability to select a frequency grid.
Version "E" additionally supports ATIS, (Automatic Transmitter Identification System) for inland waters in Europe.

About the range.
On my homemade antenna, I receive AIS targets up to 40 miles away.
Recently, an abnormal propagation of radio waves was noted, and I accepted the AIS targets at a distance of more than 300 miles!

I agree something was odd. An older version of this radio is on my boat! Went to the range option in the menu and the longest option available was 2nm. I messed about in the menus and did not see a way to increase the range.

Hence the post to the thread to check the range.

Re: Standard Horizon GX2200

I also have an old radio version (ver 1.08)!
Probably the activation range 2 nm is set in the menu!
Try to install:
menu - AIS\compass setup - activation range - 30nm
menu - AIS\compass setup - display range - 30nm

Re: Standard Horizon GX2200

I have an old SH Intrepid which has a VHF range of at least 15 miles (antenna on mast head) tested with the auto Sea Tow radio check, and I now have a SH GX2200 which shows AIS thru my Raspberry Pi to my HDTV Monitor out 30 miles or so

Re: Standard Horizon GX2200

The AIS activation range can be set to .5, 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, & 30NM. This is on page 112 of my GX2200 UM.

Been there too! Love the art and architecture, much better sailing here Sept to May.

Thanks, I did not look in the setup. Will store this for the next delivery with that type of radio.

Here is a different situation!
The activation range and display range settings only affect the display of the GХ2200! Another small observation - the GХ2200 can display a limited number of targets (it seems to me no more than 16 AIS targets).

When connecting a chartplotter or other AIS recipient (for example, I have an IPAD) to NMEA0183, there are no such restrictions!
