ST6002 autopilot stopped

We have the lelcomble and schmitt drive unit running on a raymarine st 6002 control unit.
Yesterday it kept dropping out and came up with error massage Drive Stopped?
I have just checked bushes and they are fine.
The motor runs when connected to 12 v battery but the hydraulic ram does not move either way when i reverse the polarity?
I have the rudder position showing on the ST6002 control unit when i hand steer so thats working.
It had been not used for 6 months ,but did work for a few hours before failing and then stopping
Any ides as we are in Indonesia and technical help is almost non existant.Click image for larger version

Did you check the voltage? Problem could be the computer or a bad wire.

Re: ST6002 autopilot stopped

Between electric motor and hydraulic pump exists a coupler wich can also double as a mechanical fuse. This I would check first. Another thing that can go wrong is the engaging valve which allows you to hand steer. If it doesn't make good contact or its control coil is burned the pump is turning but the hydraulic fluid doesn't reach the piston. The third possibility is a leaking hydraulic fluid hose or a leaking connection that left you without hydraulic fluid. All these conditions are pretty easy to check yourself and even to correct.

Re: ST6002 autopilot stopped

If motor runs but ram doesn't move then the problem is in the hydraulic part of the system. Maybe all the fluid leaked out while it was idle.

Any indication of hydraulic fluid under the pump or ram?

Is it filled with hydraulic fluid?

Is the connection between the motor and pump solid or is the motor shaft just turning without turning the pump?

If there is sufficient hydraulic fluid and the pump is turning with the motor then its likely the pump is bad.

It could also have something to do with the bypass/clutch solenoid so check the clutch wiring.

Re: ST6002 autopilot stopped

As others said you need to put 12v on the clutch as well as the motor to test. If the clutch connection has an Echopilot on it, you can try removing it and retesting.
