St 50 autohelm instruments

We bought our boat this last year and all of the instrumentation is the autohelm st 50 range. None of it works. The wind instrument has a faded lcd display, but the wind direction analog needle works. The depth and speed indicators have a decent read out but are totatlly incorrect. We are trying to save some money and attempting to salvage these instruments at least for this season.

Any ideas as to how to diagnose whether the problems are from the read out end or from the transducer/wiring end?

Thanks for any advice.

both the contrast and brightness of the ST series is user setable.
So is the Depth reading and sensitivity settings.
Go to the raymarine web site and download the user setup (quick guide) for
both units..... Probably save you time money and hassles.

Thank you, we downloaded the manuals. We'll go to the quick guides and spend Sunday troubleshooting.
Cheers

It was simple enough, just following cables and checking connections. There was a new depth transducer installed but the cable wasn't run to the instrument. We've got depth! Speed doesn't work. We'll clean the wheel when we haul out. Goong up the mast to service the wind speed indicator. Thanks for the help

All three of our st 50 displays are very weak. We've tried all of the user settings for brightness and contrast. Is there anything else we should be looking at? If not fixable, can we replace the display units with st 60 and /or i/70 range of raymarine usong rhe current good transducers?

Re: St 50 autohelm instruments

We're in the process of replacing our old ST40 series (or possibly 50; I don't recall). A couple of points to be aware of: First, the ST 60 range are analog; the 70's are digital, which is the way of the future. Mixing analog with digital can be done but will require an 'adapter' kit for a couple of hundred dollars. Also, the display heads don't match so there are esthetic concerns as well if your displays are side by side.

Second, the ST 60 range were discontinued many months ago but there were a lot on the market--that market is drying up now though so finding a full selection of what you need may not be possible. Good luck.
