Software to Control ICOM Marine Radios

Hi everyone,

I have been writing software called Ham Radio Integrator (HRI) to control Amateur Radio equipment and recently added support for ICOM Marine Radios.

RichardHula from the UK helped by testing the software on his Icom M802 many times - until all the problems were worked out.

Some of HRI's control features:
1. Its primary purpose is to inform all other computer controllable equipment of radio frequency changes - this probably is far more useful for amateurs/hams rather than for boating people.
2. Controls the few antenna tuners which are computer controllable - the Palstar ATAUTO, and LDG AT200PC.
3. Controls the LDG DTS4/DTS6 coax antenna switches
4. Controls the Expert 1KFA amplifier
5. Controls the CK1610 relay box - which hooks up to a COM port for control.
6. Turns ON/OFF REMOTE mode
7. Turns ON/OFF M802 radio.

HRI will probably make the ICOM Marine radios easier to use on the Amateur Bands. Controls for the ICOM Marine Radios are:
1. Frequency - RX and TX changes together, or RX and TX changed separately.
2. NB - Noise Blanker ON/OFF
3. AGC
4. SQL Control
5. Speaker
6. Dimmer
7. Tuner Control - OFF, ON, Tune Now
8. Audio Volume
9. Three TX Power Levels
10. Ten RF Gain Levels
11. Can select the Mode (for example USB/J3E, CW/A1A, etc)
12. Displays: SQL Status, S Meter, Power Meter, ANTC Meter)

Some of its s/w features:
1. Allows easy changes to the ICOM Marine radio's RX and TX frequency (by selecting VFOA) and changes to only the TX frequency (by selecting VFOB)
2. Has thousands of frequency memories organized into banks.
3. One memory bank has the ICOM Marine frequencies
4. One memory bank is for Short Wave (SWL) with the frequency list selectable from the EiBi database.
5. Can look up US Amateur callsigns (though you must first download a file from the FCC's website)

HRI is available for free for personal use. It is available in the FILES section of the N3ZH_Software Yahoo group. There is also a documentation file there explaining its setup and use.

HRI is written in Java, so one needs to go to java.com: Java + You and download & install the latest Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

Enjoy,

Howard

Hi,

I have added a command line interface to control the Icom Marine Radios. This was a request from someone needing a way to interface an ICOM marine radio to JVCOMM32 for weatherfaxes.

So, if this will help you - the s/w and documentation is in the Files section of N3ZH_Software yahoo group.

Hi,
Is the software ready yet and will it work with an Icom IC M700pro?

Re: Software to Control ICOM Marine Radios

All commands and functions on the 801 and 802 are identical. So it should work there.
I have tested JVCOMM with HRI on the 802 and it works fine.

Geir

PS for more questions about this software I would recommend the Yahoo group mentioned above.

Re: Software to Control ICOM Marine Radios

Geir,

commands on 802 and 801 are not all the same!
On 801 you can not reduce transmit power.
There is always 125watts, not 3 levels.
And the tuner terminals seems to be different as the the black wire is called E on the 802 but is called ANTC on the 801.

Has anyone eperience using HRI on a Icom IC-M 801E?

fair winds.

Re: Software to Control ICOM Marine Radios

I am using the ICOM M801E with Sailmail, Winlink and KielRadio.
Yes, there is only one power level, but the setting of amplitude in Airmail is working fine and enables me to adjust the TX power to e.g. 20 Watt.
There is a difference between the handbook and the real transmitter in Initial Settings of ACC. I have to switch ACC = ON, then the 9pin SubD is connecting to the Pactor. And the handbook tells me that the ALC voltage is given to the modem.

My personal interest is to understand if a AT140 tuner may be controlled by your software via the transmitter?
With a "automatic tuner" as the SG230 I would need a TUNE power setting.
Thanks and 73,
DC1WA
Wilhelm

Re: Software to Control ICOM Marine Radios

Hi Wilhelm,
its also my personal interest to understand if a tuner may be controlled by HRI - software with the 801E!

Hope we get information about that from Howard or somebody else who tested it on a 801E.
I am not sure if it works on a 802 that it works also on a 801E.

Question about the tuner terminal:
The Icom tuner terminals have all the same 4 pin Molex connector.
Icom 706, 718, 7000, M-802, M801E.... all the same.
But there are different names given to the black wir pin!!!
What is the difference between E, Ground and ANTC for the black wire pin?
Info about the tuner terminal data?

We are also looking for a solution to use another tuner on our 801E.
But to make the right tuner settings we need a tuner interface like TuneRite.
But if it works with the HRI software to make the right tune settings
that would be a very good solution!!!

Will join N3ZH yahoo group now.

Ciao
Maia

at the moment I am looking at the N3ZH yahoo group for information about HRI with a 801E
