Simrad Nss7 and SH GX2150

Just thought I would ask you guys,

I have a Nss7 Simrad and want to upgrade my VHF to the Standard Horizon GX2150. I was looking at the wiring to get the GPS into the radio and the AIS info to the chart-plotter , can't seem to make heads or tails of it , are they compatible .
Don't want to buy one and find out they are not.

Regards

Yes they are. I have my B&G Zeus Touch 8 connected to my GX2150.

Standard Horizon's website has detailed wiring instructions for most chartplotters. Go to the GX2150 page and look in the files tab.

Thanks , I took a look at the back of you B&G and it is the same as my NSS7 .

The colors of the wires are different from the radio to the chartplotter , same as mine , im sure i will figure it out (listen , talk / in and out)

How does the unit work , my VHF is a little old and i need a receiver for AIS so why not get them together , i will get a transponder in the future but this will work for now. Does the MFD show your AIS contacts ?

Regards

AIS target appear as arrow head, exactly as in the Operator Manual. Clicking on it give me vessel name or MMSI number depending how the transmitter is configured.

Re: Simrad Nss7 and SH GX2150

I have a Matrix GX2000 paired with my B&G Zeus 8 Touch and I have a Simrad NAIS-400 Class B transponder. It all works great. I can see AIS targets on my RAM mic, the 2 chart plotters (the other being a B&G Zeus MFD 8) and on the radio. My friend interfaced the GX2150 with his radio and and therefore has AIS targets but no ability to transmit. He saved some money. But if you are eventually going to buy a transponder then you can buy the transponder at the same time as the radio and save on buying the less expensive GX2000.

Always good to have a backup. My boat is a long way from home so I will install the VHF with the AIS for now for the trip back. Then I will consider the transponder when there is more time to run a second antenna .

Re: Simrad Nss7 and SH GX2150

I tried wiring my GX2150 to my Simrad NSS7 but it didn't take. I called tech support and they said that the NSS7 was compatible with just about every AIS receiver except the GX2150. They told me the only way they ever got them to play well together was to use a multiplexer. They recommended the Actisense.

Re: Simrad Nss7 and SH GX2150

I will have to call them as well, maybe a latest software upgrade would fix the problem. If not I will just get a Digital Yacht AIS 100 for now , that should do me until I can get up the mast . Im not crazy about antenna splitters.
