Simrad NSS 12 EVO3 Wind instuments not showing

I have recently replaced a old Simrad MFD with a new NSS 12 evo3 unit on my 42' sailing boat.

Since its installation, I have not been able find anywhere on this model of Simrad MFD chart plotter or in the its Operators Manual, or even on the Simrad Youtube videos on how to create / add a Page to the plotter to show the wind instruments from my masthead wind instruments. My old Simrad Plotter had wind instrument page, which showed both wind speed and direction over a compass.

Unlike other MFD's I have used (and my old Simrad Plotter), the NSS evo3 does not seem to have a sailing mode at all, nor does Simrad even mention sailing in their literature (its all about motor boats). Could someone please advise if it is possible to add a wind instruments to a Simrad NSS Evo3 plotter, and if so instructions on how to do it. Thanks, it feels like I am

AI generally tends to be better all round at answering the majority of tech questions asked on web chatrooms these days, maybe try cutting and pasting your post into https://www.perplexity.ai/
then just have a chat with it

I'm paid on perplexity so get access to the latest, here's what it said.. bearing in mind it can & does copy & display bad info so worth checking and can take a moment but the follow up questions it suggests can be useful as well, perplexity provides the links it used & comes up with far more useful links than google

I understand your frustration with the new Simrad NSS 12 evo3 unit, especially coming from an older Simrad plotter that had a dedicated wind instrument page. While it's true that Simrad doesn't explicitly market the NSS evo3 series for sailing, it is indeed possible to add wind instrument displays to your plotter. Here's how you can set it up:
Adding Wind Instruments to Your NSS evo3
Create a Custom Instrument Panel:
Press the Home button
Select "Tools" and then "Files"
Choose "New" and then "New page"
Select "Instrument panel" as the page type
Customize the Instrument Panel:
Once the new panel is created, tap on it to open
Press the Menu button
Select "Edit" to enter customization mode
Add Wind Instruments:
Tap on an empty space in the panel
Choose "Add gauge"
Look for wind-related gauges such as "Wind angle" and "Wind speed"
Add these to your panel as desired
Arrange and Resize:
You can drag the gauges to reposition them
Use pinch-to-zoom gestures to resize the gauges
Save Your Custom Page:
Once you're satisfied with the layout, press Menu
Select "Save" to keep your custom wind instrument page
You can now access this custom wind instrument page from your Pages menu whenever you need it1
4.
Additional Wind Data Options
While the NSS evo3 doesn't have a dedicated sailing mode, you can still access wind data in other ways:
Data Overlay:
You can add wind data as an overlay on your chart or radar pages
Go to Menu > Settings > Chart > Data Overlay
Select wind speed and direction to display on your preferred pages
Instrument Bar:
Configure the instrument bar to show wind data
Go to Menu > Settings > System > Instrument bar
Add wind speed and direction to the displayed data1
SailSteer:
While not native to Simrad, if you network a B&G Zeus plotter with your system, you can access the SailSteer feature, which provides comprehensive sailing data including wind information7
Remember, the NSS evo3 is capable of displaying wind data as long as you have compatible wind sensors connected to your NMEA 2000 network. If you're still having trouble, ensure that your wind instruments are properly connected and recognized by the system3.
By following these steps, you should be able to create a wind instrument display similar to what you had on your old Simrad plotter. While it may not be as sailing-focused as some dedicated sailing plotters, the NSS evo3 is versatile enough to provide the wind data you need for your 42' sailing boat.

Worth keeping in the back of your mind how Navico, the parent company positions its products.

Lowrance: Recreational Anglers
Simrad: Powered craft
B&G: Sail

While each share some common features (chart display, radar integration, ais, waypoints, tracks & routes, network connectivity etc), there are also features tailored specifically to the target markets.

For example you will only find sailing oriented features (Sail Steer, Layline Overlays, Race Start, etc) in the B&G product family.

And for some reason, the exact same hardware costs significantly more for us sailors.

The cheapest I've ever seen this model, by a lot actually. https://www.hodgesmarine.com/bag000-...unction-s.html $2234, West Marine Pro sells for $3318 and retail is $3999.

Equivalent Simrad
https://www.hodgesmarine.com/sim000-...-chartplo.html
$1729.

Maybe the OP can return the Simrad and buy the B&G.

Why it is $500 more, I guess us sailors must pay more!

That would be for the privileges for owing a Sailboat, we get to pay more.

I am now hoping that the instructions I received from barcoMeCasa will simply allow me to add customised wind gauges to my Simrad Plotter, thus avoiding any further outlays. If not, probably cheapest option, is to purchase a special purpose wind 4" wind gauge (around AU$800) and mount it next to the plotter.
