Simrad HS35 Cradle won't charge

I found my HS35 down to zero bars, so I looked at the cradle. +12V was good, but the cradle was drawing 0mA of current. I opened it up, and discovered the power supply board was fried, with what appears to me to be water ingress.

I know others have had cradle charging issues - did anyone open the cradle up?

Re: Simrad HS35 Cradle won't charge

Update: Simrad says that the charging cradle is not IP67 rated and should not be mounted in exterior locations. I'm now using the cradle as a physical mount outside, but have installed a new one inside the cabin for charging.

Re: Simrad HS35 Cradle won't charge

Thanks for the heads up.

I have two charging cradles. One came with the original HS35 and the other came with its warranty replacement. I have one installed at the nav desk and the other outside under the dodger clamped to the ss tubing. I'll change the clamp to one that will let me bring the charger inside when it is not in use.

Re: Simrad HS35 Cradle won't charge

Removing the screws and cracking the glue seal around the charger would allow you to liberally apply a decent sealer, and it might keep you running outside. Just don't allow water to ingress up the power cable - wicking can and will bring water up the cable over time. YMMV .
