Simrad autopilot

Seasons greetings,
I am on an island - limited help available. I have a Simrad autopilot AP 16, with AC 20 and hydraulic linear drive HLD2000 MK2L.

Display starts up, correct compass, I get rudder information but that is it.

To ask Simrad is pointless - have tried before.

Where do I best start to debug?

Thank you.

BTDT...

Assuming you have already checked and confirmed the fuses on the computer are good, start with the connector on the back of the control head. Ensure that the pins are clean. Hopefully you have some electrical contact cleaner but you can use 90% alcohol on a Q-Tip/Cotton swab also (just ensure the alcohol has completely evaporated before reinstalling the plug.) The typical control head has two plug positions that are the same and if, after cleaning the pins, the first connector doesn't seem to work, try the second plug position. If neither of those solves the problem move on to the junction block at the computer and try cleaning the plugs there as well. Also, pull the power lines from the HLD and ensure they are clean and dry. Usually the foregoing is all it takes to get the system back up. If not, you may have a failure of the power connectors on the mother-board; or, one of the power transistors may have given up the ghost (hopefully not!). In either case, the computer will need to go to a qualified shop for testing and hopefully repair.

Good luck!
