Simrad AP-24/28 & Raymarine linear drive

Hi all,

I have a Autohelm 6000 AP. I'm wondering if I can use the linear drive from this unit with a new Simrad AP 24/28 head. Anyone with any experience with this?

Regards,

Steve

No problem. We have a Simrad AP-24 (I assume you will be using the computer as well as the head) using a Raymarine Linear Drive. You will need a Simrad rudder reference unit also, unless your current RM one is N2K.

What's required to interface the computer, is it just two electrical connections? (I can't get into my drive unit without major excavation)

Seems like you may need a flux gate compass too if the old compass won't interface with the new computer?? I have a similar problem with my Robinson Shipmate auto pilot of 22 years has stopped working. The hydralic linear drive unit appears to be the same as the Simrad unit and I'm thinking of just replacing all the other components to solve the problem rather than trying to trouble shoot a 22 year old system.
