Seeking Advice on the WEATHER FAX / RTTY / NBDP RECEIVER from Steamrock.com

Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of preparing for my next sailing trip in the Caribbean and I'm considering purchasing the WEATHER FAX / RTTY / NBDP RECEIVER offered by Steamrock.com. I'm particularly interested in its capabilities to receive weather bulletins, RTTY, and NBDP transmissions.

  • Has anyone here used this product?
  • If so, could you share your experience?
  • How do you find the reception quality?
  • Is the software easy to use and understand?
  • How about the device's reliability in challenging marine conditions?

Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and input.

Regards,
Nick

Yikes, that is expensive. I know that there are some people who insist on using WXFAX over other more modern services, but I would never pay that much for them. Especially in the Caribbean where you are always only a day or two from having cell service. You hardly need any offshore weather at all in the Carribean.

You can receive WXFAX with a cheap receiver connected to a PC or tablet. You can also request and receive WXFAX via email and saildocs. https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post2588678

For $1800 you could buy an Iridium Go! and have many months of service with Predictwind. Or Starlink and a sailing season of service. If you only keep active the months you need them, possibly several Years of service from either Iridium or Starlink.
