Seatalk Failure - Raymarine ST6002

Hello!

After having been sitting in the marina for 5 months and getting a number of boat projects done or stuck in never ending progress we have discovered that our autopilot has also crapped out.

This is a Raymarina ST-6002 smart pilot. It has ST60 instruments. We have the controller mounted at the cockpit helm station along with an ST60 and then a repeater at the nav station below. We also have 2x RL70C plotters and radar displays and 2 other connected instruments - wind and multiple display.

When the autopilot and instruments are turned on they now intermittently display the message "Seatalk Failure" on the main controller and "pilot" error on others.

This failure message comes and goes - very intermittent. I have been tracing the seatalk cables and re-doing all the connections but so far nothing makes any difference.

Raymarine no longer supports any of this and parts are not apparently available. It has always worked great for us, sure need to get it fixed!

Any ideas?

disconnect one item at a time. if the cables are good. likly one of the screens / displays is causing the network to crash. (or pilot cpu)

you may need to replace one screen. (or stop using it)

If you have a short seatalk cable with a seatalk plug on one end and bare wires on the other try taking the the auto helm control head out from its location and connecting it directly to the screw on connections on the CPU.
This will tell you if the problem is in the seatalk network.

I had a similar problem, exactly the same intermittent SeaTalk error. Tried all the same cable diagnostics. No Joy. Eventually I resorted to disconnecting everything, and reconnecting only one at a time. Turned out to be a chafed cable that was not even connected to the removed device (changed autopilots and abandoned the cable in place, but the cable was still connected to the network. Disconnected the cable from the network (and removed it entirely) and the problem disappeared.
